Toenail Fungus Treatment

Toenail fungus is a condition that affects many people and can be especially hard to get rid of. Fortunately, there are several methods to go about treating and avoiding it.

Antifungals & Deterrence

Oral antifungal medicine has been shown to be effective in many cases. It is important to consult with a podiatrist to determine the proper regiment for you, or potentially explore other options.

Applying foot powder on the feet and shoes helps keep the feet free of moisture and sweat.

Sandals or open toed shoes – Wearing these will allow air movement and help keep feet dry. They also expose your feet to light, which fungus cannot tolerate. Socks with moisture wicking material also help as well.

Causes of Pain on the Inside of the Foot

One of the most common causes of pain on the inside of the foot is posterior tibial tendonitis. It occurs when the all-important posterior tibial tendon becomes inflamed, usually from overuse. This tendon starts in the back of the leg, runs under the ankle, and attaches to the inside of the foot. The posterior tibial tendon helps to slow you down as your foot hits the ground and then pushes you forward with each step. If that motion is repeated during a workout, or if your feet flatten too much as you walk or run, the posterior tibial tendon can become overworked and painful. One way to stop this from happening is to find footwear that helps to stabilize the foot, support the arch, and keep the foot from rolling inward. Another way is to be fitted by a podiatrist for custom orthotics. It is important to note that substantial pain under the foot may indicate a torn tendon, and you may wish to seek immediate medical attention. If you are experiencing pain on the inside of the foot, it is a good idea to consult a podiatrist to determine the cause and get the proper treatment for you.

Research has shown that approximately 75% of the population worldwide spends their working day on their feet. These jobs can range from retail workers to assembly line and restaurant employees, and many of these people endure unwanted foot conditions. Additionally, muscle fatigue can lead to having heel and arch problems. Plantar fasciitis is a common condition among people who stand for the majority of the day. This occurs as a result of an inflamed plantar fascia, which is the band of tissue that connects the toes to the heels. Foot pain can lead to reduced productivity, and it is suggested that short breaks be taken as often as possible to elevate and rest the feet. It is beneficial to frequently shift positions, and wearing shoes that fit correctly will help tired muscles. If you stand during the day while working, please confer with a podiatrist who can inform you about coping methods that may help to reduce and avoid foot pain.

While working on the feet, it is important to take the proper care of them. For more information about working on your feet, contact Afsha Naimat-Shahzad, DPM from Leander Foot & Ankle. Our doctor will treat your foot and ankle needs.

Working on Your Feet

Standing on your feet for long periods of time can cause stress and pain in your feet. Your whole body may experience change in terms of posture, back pain, bunions, callouses and or plantar warts. There are ways to avoid these conditions with proper foot care, smart choices and correct posture.

Positive Changes

Negative heeled shoe – Choosing this shoe type places the heel slightly lower than the ball of the foot. These are great for overall foot health. Find shoes that fit you correctly.

Go barefoot – Our feet were not designed to be enclosed for all hours of the day. Try to periodically expose your feet to air.

Eliminate Pain

Foot Exercises – Performing simple exercises, incorporating yoga and doing stretches are beneficial. This will allow increased blood flow to the area and muscles of the foot.

Achilles tendon – Stretching the foot out flat on the floor will relax the calf muscles and tendon. These exercises can be performed almost anywhere. Make sure you add these exercises to your daily regimen.

With a little bit of this information and knowing more about foot health, you will notice changes. Foot stretches and proper footwear will help with pain and prevent further issues.

Ankle Pain and Cracking

The ankles are incredibly critical parts of the human body. Not only do they connect the feet to the lower leg, they enable the foot to move upward and downward. Sometimes, individuals will notice that the ankles can crack and pop. The medical term for this phenomenon is crepitus. When an individual’s ankle pops and it does not cause pain, there is a good chance that the popping is merely caused by the release of gas from the joints. Alternatively, the popping could be a result of tendons rubbing over the ankle. However, when an individual’s ankle pops and causes the individual pain, then this potentially could be indicative of a more serious problem. In this case, it is always best to schedule an appointment with a podiatrist who can help you identify and treat the problem. Contact a podiatrist today for more information.

Ankle pain can have many different causes and the pain may potentially be serious. If you have ankle pain, consult with Afsha Naimat-Shahzad, DPM from Leander Foot & Ankle. Our doctor will assess your condition and provide you with quality foot and ankle treatment.
